Spataro Earns All-East Coast Honors in Pole Vault

Moon Township, Pa. - Senior Chris Spataro (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine-Richland) of the Robert Morris University men's outdoor track & field team highlighted the IC4A/ECAC Championships for the Colonials this past weekend at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J., by earning All-East Coast honors.

Spataro finished sixth in the pole vault and took home All-East Coast accolades for the first time by posting a leap of 4.80 meters (15'9") on his first attempt. The mark helped him tally three points

Also competing for Robert Morris at the IC4A/ECAC Championships was sophomore Steve Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic), who participated in both the hammer throw and the shot put.

Mitchell finished 15th in the shot put with a throw of 15.68 meters (51'5.5"), while sophomores Brendan Morales (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) and Collin Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) finished 26th and 28th in the event, respectively. Morales posted a toss of 15.26 meters (50'0.75"), while Ray finished at 15.17 meters (49'9.25").

In the hammer throw, Mitchell finished with a toss of 49.62 meters (162'9") to finish 24th, while Ray finished 25th in the discus with a throw of 45.01 meters (147'8").

A pair of relay squads also competed at the IC4A/ECAC Championships for Robert Morris.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the Colonials finished with a time of 42.71 seconds with a squad that consisted of freshmen Abraham Roy (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area), Jermaine Dwight (Wyncote, Pa. / Cheltenham Township) and Dorian Rumble (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Penn Hills) and senior T.J. Green (Stamford, Conn. / Milford Academy).

RMU's 4x400-meter relay team that featured Green, freshman Nicolas Gentile (Sarver, Pa. / Freeport), Dwight and Roy posted a time of 3:17.53 in the preliminaries.

In the 200-meter dash, senior Charles Gladman (Philadelphia, Pa. / Cardinal Dougherty) posted a time of 22.71 seconds in the preliminaries to finish 26th.

Robert Morris now gears up for the NCAA East Regional, which takes place Thursday, May 26, through Saturday, May 28, in Bloomington, Indiana.
