Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's tennis team opened its 2011-12 campaign Sunday afternoon by posting a 5-1 victory over Mercyhurst at the North Athletic Complex.
RMU earned each of its victories in singles play before rain forced the cancellation of doubles action.
The Colonials earned wins at the No. 2 through No. 6 singles flights to earn their first win of the 2011-12 season.
At No. 2, junior Jose Limon (Colonia San Jose, Mexico) posted a 6-4, 6-2, win over Jorn van der Veer. At the No. 4 flight, senior Igor Neves (Ponta Pora, Brazil) earned a 6-0 and 6-2 win over Eric Drusko.
In other singles action, sophomore Ricardo Horlle (Curitiba Parana, Brazil), junior Tarun Kishan (Mississauga, Ontario / Saint Francis Xavier Secondary) and senior Aaron Haas (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Montour) each earned straight set sweeps, 6-0 and 6-0.
Horlle defeated Spencer Kilpatrick at No. 3, Kishan knocked off Mike Vinopoal at No. 5 and Haas beat Kyle Hosier at No. 6.
Robert Morris returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 27, by welcoming Allegheny to the North Athletic Complex for a 4:00 p.m. match.
