Pittsburgh, Pa. – After a College Hockey America (CHA) home series split with in-state rival Mercyhurst, the
Robert Morris University women's hockey team earned votes in the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey and the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) polls this week.
This is the third-straight week that the Colonials have received recognition from both national rankings. Last week, RMU earned 10 votes from USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine and five votes from USCHO.com.
They improved upon those standings, gaining a program-high 16 in the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine Poll and 10 in the USCHO.com Poll. The Colonials are the highest-ranking team in both 'receiving votes' sections, as they sit just four points out of 10
th in the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine rankings and seven points out of the top 10 in the USCHO.com rankings.
Robert Morris (9-3-0 overall, 3-1-0 CHA) is off to their second-best start in school history, as they narrowly fall behind the 10-1-1 pace that the 2011-12 team set through 12 games. The Colonials finished that season with an overall mark of 19-9-4 and defeated the Lakers in the CHA Championship Game for the program's first conference title.
RMU is one of four teams listed in the 'receiving votes' section of the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine poll, along with St. Lawrence and November opponents Ohio State and Syracuse. The Colonials take on the Orange in CHA play next weekend, then make a quick turnaround and play the Buckeyes in Columbus the following Tuesday. Syracuse also joins RMU as the only teams receiving votes that are outside the USCHO.com Top 10.
The Colonials end a four-game homestand this weekend against CHA member Lindenwood. Friday's contest is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. from 84 Lumber Arena.
