Moon Township, Pa. – After a season-opening victory against
Detroit, the Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team had two individuals
take home weekly awards from the Northeast Conference. Goaltender Kaitlin Pentz (Sykesville, Md. /
Century) picked up the Defensive Player of the Week award while freshman
Brittany Byerly (Wexford, Pa. / Pine-Richland) earned the Rookie of the Week
honor.
Pentz earns her first career award from the NEC after
backstopping the Colonials to a 13-7 victory on Saturday. In the win, Pentz would record six saves
while allowing six goals in 55 minutes of action. While making four saves in the first half
against Detroit, Pentz would not allow the first goal until there were three
minutes remaining in the half as the Colonials took a 7-1 lead. Pentz finished the game with a .500 save
percentage and a 6.63 goals-against average.
Byerly picks up the NEC Rookie of the Week award after
competing in her first collegiate contest and tallying four points. Byerly didn't wait long to record her
first-career point as she assisted on the first goal of the game. Byerly would also contribute to the opening
7-0 run by Robert Morris as she scored her first-career goal during the scoring
streak by the Colonials. Byerly would
also contribute a goal and an assist in the second half of the contest with
both points coming 46 seconds apart.
The Colonials will hit the road for the first time this
season as they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Howard on Sunday. The start time for the contest is scheduled
for 3:00 p.m.
