The Robert Morris University men's track & field team placed third out of 21 teams in the Morgan State Legacy Meet at Baltimore, Md. this past weekend.

Two Colonial student-athletes qualified for the IC4A Championships in the meet. Senior Brendan Morales (Westminster, Pa. / Westminster) hit the needed mark in the hammer throw with his toss of 54.27 meters (178'01"). That second-place finish was coupled with a fifth-place throw of 15.54 meters (51'00") in the shot put.

The other RMU student-athlete to book his May trip for Princeton, N.J. was sophomore Richard Njenga (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata). Njenga's leap of 14.74 meters (48'04.50") was good enough for fourth in the event, and shattered his old personal best by two feet.

Njenga wasn't the Colonial to break a personal record. Freshman Nick Delmonaco (Oakmont, Pa. / Riverview) set a new mark after his fifth-place throw of 44.07 meters (144'07") in the discus.

Finishing right ahead of Delmonaco in the discus was junior Kelton Mehls (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern), who had a toss of 45.16 meters (148'02").

Senior Steve Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) took home a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 16.27 meters (53'04.50").

Junior Abraham R. Roy (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) contributed to two relay teams that gained points. Roy led the sixth-place 4x400-meter relay team that clocked in 3:20.38, and was the third leg of the seventh-place 4x100-meter relay team that finished with a time of 42.75 seconds.

Freshman Mark Ayitey (East Pittsburgh, Pa. / Woodland Hills) claimed bronze in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.76 seconds.
RMU will travel to Ashland, Ohio this Saturday to compete in the Ashland Open.
