Moon Township, Pa. –
The Robert Morris University men's track & field team continues its 2013 outdoor spring campaign this weekend by taking part in the NCAA East Preliminary Round on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.

The Colonials have a trio of student-athletes participating, with junior Chris Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) taking part in the javelin and seniors Steve Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Centrla Catholic) and Collin Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) competing in the shot put.

Carper enters the prelims ranked eighth in the East in the javelin thanks to a school record throw of 70.87 meters (232'6") in RMU's season opener at the Wake Forest Open (3/15/13). Carper won the individual title in the event at the 2013 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a toss of 68.60 meters (225'1") and owns eight of the top nine marks in school history in the javelin.

The 2013 NCAA East Preliminary Round marks the third straight year that Carper will participate in the event, becoming the first student-athlete at RMU to do so. He also competed in the javelin in the 2011 and 2012 NCAA East Preliminary Round.

In the shot put, Mitchell enters the NCAA East Preliminary Round ranked 35th out of 48 participants, while Ray ranks 44th.
Mitchell established a new school record in the event with a toss of 17.43 meters (57'2.25") at the 2013 NEC Outdoor Championships, while Ray's top mark of the season of 17.17 meters (56'4") also came at the NEC Outdoor Championships.

For Mitchell and Ray, the duo are making their first appearance in the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
