Pittsburgh, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's hockey team will host its eighth annual "Skate for the Cure" event this weekend when the Colonials host Syracuse.
Friday's contest is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop, while Saturday will feature a 3:05 p.m. face-off.
Founded during the 2006-07 season by College Hockey America (CHA), "Skate for the Cure" is a league-wide initiative that involves its member institutions (Lindenwood, Mercyhurst, Penn State, RIT, Robert Morris, and Syracuse) dedicating one or two games out of their schedule towards raising funds and awareness for an organization of their choice.
RMU will be selling raffle tickets during both games. Tickets can be purchased for $10 each or three for $20. The raffle will be held on Saturday.
Among the prizes that will be raffled off are a signed stick from Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik, tickets to the Penguins game against the Dallas Stars on March 18
th, and a signed jersey, stick, and poster from the Colonial men's hockey team.
Fans will be able to take part in 'Skate with the Colonials' following the contest on Friday. There will be a shuttle picking up students from Lexington Hall at 6:30 p.m. to take them to 84 Lumber Arena for the game, and it will return at both 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. Students will also be provided with free pizza, courtesy of Hometown Pizza.
