Carper Named NEC Field Athlete of the Week

Senior earns honor after record-breaking performance

Moon Township, Pa. – Senior Chris Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) of the Robert Morris University men's outdoor track & field team was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league in its first weekly release of the season.

Carper broke a school record in winning the javelin this past weekend at the Wake Forest Open. He won the event with a toss of 72.13 meters, a mark which stands as the third best throw among all Division I athletes after this past weekend. The mark broke his own school record, which was set last year at Wake Forest, and cleared the IC4A qualifying standard by over 13 meters. Carper now owns each of the top six throws in the javelin in school history.

Carper became the first male student-athlete to compete in the NCAA Championships last season and earned All-America Honorable Mention honors at the meet. He is a three-time All-NEC honoree in the javelin and won the league title last season, setting a new NEC Championships record in the process.

This award marks the third time in his career that Carper was named Field Athlete of the Week by the NEC.
