Oursler Named NEC Choice Hotels Rookie of the Week

Freshman averaged 15.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocks.

Moon Township, Pa. – Robert Morris University women's basketball freshman forward Cassie Oursler (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Oursler averaged a double-double during the final week of her rookie regular season.
 
The freshman post player contributed 15.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game as the Colonials faced two teams in the top half of the league standings. She shot 52.0 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe for the week. The 6'3" Oursler was especially effective on both ends of the floor while helping Robert Morris secure the NEC regular season crown on Monday night. In a 75-69 victory over regular season runner-up Mount St. Mary's, Oursler scored 17 points and pulled down a career-high 18 boards. Oursler swatted six shots and came up with a pair of steals. In a five-point setback at Saint Francis U on Saturday, Oursler totaled 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in 34 minutes before fouling out.
 
A two-time Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week, Oursler finished the regular season ranked third in the league for blocked shots per game (1.59). Her 46 blocked shots this season are the fifth most in team history. For the year, she is averaging 7.4 points and 5.1 rebounds while starting 21 games.
 
The top-seeded Colonials take on #8 LIU Brooklyn in the Quarterfinals of the 2014 Northeast Conference Tournament Sunday, March 4. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the Charles L. Sewall Center.
