Brett Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

Kansas City, Mo. – Robert Morris University senior men's soccer forward Neco Brett is one of 30 players who were marked as potential candidates for the 2015 Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer and is presented annually to one male and one female athlete. Brett is the leading scorer in all of NCAA Division I over the last two seasons and is second among active players in scoring with 69 points on 29 goals and 11 assists.

As a junior in 2014, Brett scored 15 goals and recorded three assists for a total of 33 points, a mark that was tied for first nationally at the end of the regular season. He was named a College Sports Madness All-American Third Team forward for the second straight season. He also earned a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America / Continental Tire Men's All-Northeast Region First Team. Brett was an all-region first team selection as a sophomore as well. The native of Kingston, Jamaica, is the Northeast Conference Player of the Year after leading the nation in goals and points for the second consecutive season.

Brett finished the year tied for first in the nation with 33 points and led Division I with 15 goals. The goal total is tied for the third in Colonials single-season annals while his point output is fifth best. With five points in the first two games, Brett got the season off to a running start. He went on to record 12 goals in the team's first 13 games, including a four-goal performance in a 4-0 win against George Washington. It marked the second-most goals in team history and was the 15th hat trick in team history and the second for Brett. It was one of his three multi-goal games.

Brett is the third player in RMU history to be named NEC Player of the Year and is the first in team history to earn the honor more than once – he was also the 2013 NEC Player of the Year. Just a junior, he is already seventh at RMU with 69 career points despite not recording a single point in his freshman campaign. His 29 goals are tied for sixth, while he sits just outside the program's top 15 with 11 assists.

The winners of the MAC Hermann Trophy will be announced Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches whose programs are currently NSCAA College Services members will vote on their top choices and the list will be narrowed down to the top 15 players. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, by voting for their favorite semifinalist in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website. From that pool of 30, six finalists (three men, three women) will be chosen for the award.
