Wakefield, Mass. – Freshman forward
Jaycee Gebhard of the No. 9
Robert Morris University women's hockey team was named the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association National Rookie of the Month for February 2017, announced the association Friday afternoon.
Gebhard led all freshmen in points per game in February with 10 points on six goals and four assists in six games to earn WHCA National Division I Rookie of the Month. She had a point in all six games to extend her current run to a career-high-tying seven-game point streak, including three multi-point efforts.
The rookie out of Plenty, Saskatchewan, opened the month with a five-point weekend versus RIT. She scored the first of two game-winning goals in the Feb. 10 win against the Tigers, and another in the final weekend of the regular season on the road at Lindenwood.
Gebhard scored both of RMU's goals in a 2-1 win at the home of the Lindenwood Lions on Feb. 24 to guarantee a share of the 2016-17 regular-season crown. She added an assist in Robert Morris' 3-0 shutout of Lindenwood that secured the 2016-17 CHA Regular-Season Championship title outright, the first in program history for the Colonials.
Gebhard wrapped up the 2016-17 regular season with 44 points in 32 games. She led all freshmen in points (44), goals (22), and assists (22), and was one of just two rookies to average at least 1.00 points per game, checking in at 1.38. She ranks tied for fifth nationally in goals scored, and leads the nation in power-play goals (nine).
Robert Morris opens postseason play on Friday, March 3 in the 2017 CHA Tournament semifinals at 4 p.m. in the HARBORCENTER in Buffalo, N.Y. against the #6 seed Lindenwood Lions.
