PITTSBURGH -- For the third time this season,
Robert Morris University junior defender
Emily Curlett has been honored by College Hockey America as its Player of the Week.
Curlett, a native of Lapeer, Michigan and a product of the Little Caesars youth program, continued her impressive offensive output with five points (2g, 3a) last weekend as the Colonials split a pair of games against tough competition. She also fired 12 shots on goal and blocked 12, earning an all-tournament team designation in the process.
As part of the inaugural Battle at the Burgh tournament in Cranberry Township, Curlett and the Colonials took on No. 1 Wisconsin and national contender Colgate, dropping the first matchup, 3-1, and winning the second, 6-5. Curlett's production at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex gave her 25 points (11g, 14a) on the season, setting a personal single-season best with 14 regular-season games yet to come.
Curlett scored RMU's only goal against the Badgers last Saturday, converting a five-on-three opportunity for her team-best ninth power-play tally.
In the wild game against Colgate, Curlett notched her second career four-point game (1g, 3a), powering the Colonials to an important victory against a team ahead of them in the NCAA Division I RPI ratings.
Curlett has shown a knack for rising to the competition this season, as her three Player of the Week honors have each followed eye-catching performances against highly-ranked foes. Her two previous weekly prizes occurred after October series against No. 2 Minnesota and No. 4 Clarkson.
On the topic of rankings, the Colonials rose to an unofficial 12th in D-I in Monday's USCHO.com national poll. RMU has received votes in all but two USCHO polls this season, rising to a high ranking of No. 8 on a pair of occasions.
With their final non-conference showdowns in the rear-view mirror, the Colonials (11-7-2, 5-1-0 CHA) return to CHA action this weekend at RIT. Faceoffs are set for 2 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday in suburban Rochester, New York.
