Noble Named To NEC Volleyball Mount Rushmore

League celebrating 40 years with special recognition

Moon Township, Pa. – Former RMU middle hitter Katie Noble (1999-2002) was named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Mount Rushmore Volleyball Team Tuesday, it was announced by the league.

In celebration of its 40th season as an NCAA Division I conference, the NEC is paying tribute to its heritage with seasonal announcements of its Mount Rushmore award winners. Each Mount Rushmore honors four student-athletes from a sport on a hypothetical mountain. Student-athletes were selected by a conference panel based on their individual accomplishments both on the conference and national levels while they played in the NEC.

Noble, a native of Mentor, Ohio, is the only two-time NEC Player of the Year in RMU volleyball history, claiming the honor in both 2001 and 2002. During her four-year career with the Colonials, RMU claimed three NEC regular-season championships (1999, 2001, 2002) as well as four NEC Tournament (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002) crowns and subsequent bids to the NCAA Tournament.

During Noble's four years on the roster, RMU compiled an overall record of 97-50 (.660), including a mark of 36-2 (.947) against league opposition. In 2001, the Colonials established a school record with 30 victories.

As a freshman, Noble racked up 397 kills en route to 1999 All-NEC First Team accolades. She also garnered first team plaudits from the league in 2000, 2001 and 2002, the only student-athlete in program history to earn All-NEC First Team accolades four times. Also during her rookie campaign in 1999, the Colonials established an NEC single-match record in 1999 for kills with 101 in a 3-2 victory over Quinnipiac (11/20/99) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, with Noble posting 14 kills in the triumph.

In earning her first NEC Player of the Year nod in 2001, Noble paced the circuit in kills per set (3.28) while ranking second in attack percentage (.322). The following year in earning her second consecutive NEC Player of the Year honor, Noble recorded a league-high .367 attack percentage.

A seven-time NEC Player of the Week, Noble finished with 1,418 kills in an RMU uniform, which stood as the school record at the conclusion of her career and now ranks second. She also ranks fourth all-time in program history in sets played (463), fifth in solo blocks (132) and sixth in attack percentage (.280). She was inducted into the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
