Moon Township, Pa. – Senior
Josh Nagy of the RMU men's golf team was named to the 2023 All-Horizon League Second Team Friday in a vote of league head coaches. It marks the second consecutive year the native of Saskatchewan, Sask., has garnered second team #HLGolf accolades.
For the second consecutive year Nagy paced the Colonials with a stroke average of 73.0 in 28 rounds, which ranks second in the RMU single-season record book. Nagy owns two of the top five single-season scoring averages in program history after finishing at
73.3 during the 2021-22 season en route to 2022 #HLGolf Second Team plaudits.
During the 2022-23 campaign, Nagy recorded a quartet of top five finishes,
including his first medalist honor. At the Bucknell Fall Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., at Bucknell Golf Club, Nagy posted a 71 in each of the first two rounds before firing a 66 (-4) in the final round to finish the 54-hole invite at 208 (-2). Thanks to the performance at Bucknell, Nagy broke his own school record for a 54-hole total, which he originally established at the
Towson Fall Invitational in October of 2021.
At the 2023 Horizon League Championships earlier this week at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., Nagy was
named to the all-tournament team after tying for fourth individually with Mikkel Mathiesen of Wright State at 215 (-1). Nagy handed in a 69 (-3) in the third round, posting a pair of eagles during his final nine holes of the championships.
Nagy owns nine top five finishes in program history, which ranks fourth all-time at RMU. He is just one top five finish shy of joining Bart Mease (1995-99), Max Palmer (2016-20) and C.G. Mercatoris (2007-11) with at least 10 during their respective careers. Mease owns the school record for top five finishes with 14, and he is followed by Palmer (12) and Mercatoris (11).
Led by Nagy, the Colonials concluded the 2022-23 season with a four-player stroke average of 297.3, just the fourth time RMU has finished with an average under 300. RMU set the school record in 2014-15 at 296.7, bettering its mark from the previous season when the Colonials finished at 299.4. During the 2021-22 season with Nagy leading the charge, RMU finished with a four-player stroke average of 297.1.
Nagy enters the 2023-24 campaign with a career scoring average of 74.02 strokes per round, which trails only Santiago Mejia in the career records. Mejia averaged 73.89 strokes from 2013 to 2015.
