Colonials Receive USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

Marks seventh straight year and 12th time overall RMU has earned the honor

Moon Township, Pa. – The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Thursday that the RMU volleyball team has earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2023 academic year, joining 201 other NCAA Division I teams to earn the honor.

The acknowledgment for RMU marks the seventh consecutive season the Colonials have been recognized by the USMC and AVCA for its achievements in the classroom. Additionally, this marks the program's 12th USMC/AVCA Team Academic accolade.

The award, which was established during the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams who have set a strong academic example for their schools and/or universities, posting a minimum cumulative team GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale

The Colonials posted a 3.71 GPA for the 2022-23 school year.

The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award was not the only academic acknowledgment the Colonials received. RMU also earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll award which represents programs in the top 20% of team GPAs for their division. The Colonials were just one of 45 Division I programs to receive the laurel.
