College Hockey America Release
Erie, Pa. – Four
Robert Morris University women's hockey players claimed College Hockey America (CHA) postseason honors at the annual CHA Tournament banquet, held at the Ambassador Banquet Center this evening.
The four all-conference honorees are the most Robert Morris has had in a season, surpassing the three selections in 2011-12.
Freshman goaltender
Jessica Dodds (London, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes) becomes the third Colonial in four seasons to win CHA Rookie of the Year after pacing the rookie class in practically every statistical category. Among netminders who have played 33.3% of their team's minutes, Dodds led all freshmen in wins (21), winning percentage (.804), goals-against-average (1.58), save percentage (.935), and shutouts (5). Her wins, winning percentage, and goals-against-average led her conference counterparts and ranked in the top eight nationally.
As the statistics suggest, Dodds rewrote most of the program's single-season record book this season. She holds the top spot in wins, save percentage (among goaltenders with 100 saves), goals-against-average (among netminders who have played 200 minutes), and shutouts.
A three-time CHA Goaltender of the Month winner this season, Dodds also becomes the first rookie netminder in the conference's history to be named to the All-CHA First Team. She is the first RMU goaltender since
Kristen DiCiocco (2011-12) to claim first team accolades, and the first Colonial goalie since Heather Rossi (2006-07) to claim All-CHA Rookie Team honors.
Joining Dodds on the All-CHA First Team is junior forward
Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Junior Thunder), who was one of two unanimous selections by the coaches. She leads the CHA in goals (23) and game-winning goals (7), and also ranks third in points (40). Vint's knack for the clutch goal is strong on the national scale, as she ranks tied for second in that department, one behind the leader. Her mark of 23 goals ties her with one other player for sixth nationally.
Vint also has shattered numerous program records in 2013-14. The junior forward broke the school record for goals in a career, as her number of 61 is now eight more than Brianna Delaney (2008-12), who originally held the top spot. Vint also surpassed the single-season record for goals, which she held with 22 in 2011-12.
This is Vint's third-straight appearance on the first team, which surpasses Brianne McLaughlin's program record of two in 2007-08 and 2008-09. She was a two-time CHA Player of the Month in November and January, the latter honor boosted from back-to-back hat tricks in games at Mercyhurst on Jan. 25 and at Lindenwood at Jan. 31.
Freshman forward
Brittany Howard (St. Thomas, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) is one of two All-CHA Second Team members for RMU, and also joins Dodds on the All-CHA Rookie Team. Like her classmate, Howard paces the rookie class in almost every statistical category as she holds or shares the top spot in goals (17), assists (24), points (41), and game-winning goals (5). Her point total is good enough for second in the conference, while her assist mark is the CHA's third best.
Howard has broken the single-season program record for assists, topping Vint's mark of 22 set in 2011-12. On Nov. 29, 2013, the rookie forward became the third player in school history to score four or more goals in a game, accomplishing the feat in the Colonials' 4-2 victory over Maine.
A two-time CHA monthly honoree, Howard is the fourth RMU forward to earn all-rookie honors and the third in the last four seasons.
Senior defenseman
Anneline Lauziere (St. Thomas, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes) gives Howard some company on the All-CHA Second Team with her first conference honor. In her final season with the Colonials, Lauziere has provided a huge offensive spark from the blue line, surpassing virtually all of her career-highs. Her goal total (5) is third among conference defensemen, while her assist (13) and point (18) marks are good for fourth.
Lauziere broke a single-season school record for points by a defenseman this season, surpassing
Jamie Joslin's mark of 16 set in 2011-12. She also tied the top marks in goals and assists, which are also held by Joslin.
The senior becomes the third defenseman in Colonial history to earn All-CHA honors, joining Joslin (2012-13) and Whitney Pappas (2009-10). On Nov. 1, 2013, Lauziere became the sixth player in program history to tally four or more assists in a single game.
Robert Morris returns to action tomorrow evening in search of its second CHA title. The Colonials take on RIT at 7:30 p.m. in the CHA Semifinals at Mercyhurst Ice Arena.
