Pittsburgh, Pa. – For the third-straight week, the
Robert Morris University women's hockey team remains ranked at a program-best No. 7 ranking in the USCHO.com Poll, and No. 7 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll.
The No. 7 Colonials (16-2-6, 9-1-2) have spent seven weeks in the top 10 of the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
RMU is the only CHA representative that is ranked nationally. Robert Morris moved down one spot to No. 8 in the Women's Division I PairWise Rankings, a system that attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I women's hockey tournament.
This weekend, RMU went to overtime twice against in-state, College Hockey America (CHA) rival Mercyhurst. On Friday, the Colonials topped the Lakers, 2-1, and tied Mercyhurst on Saturday, 3-3. The Colonials have just one loss in CHA action.
Nationally, Robert Morris boasts a top-10 team winning percentage (4
th; .792), power play (8
th; 17.5%), scoring offense (8
th; 3.33 goals per game), combined special teams (7
th; 52.8%), and scoring margin (9
th; +1.12). They rank second in the nation in power-play goals (25), second in penalty kills (124), second in power-play attempts (143), sixth in faceoff wins (751), and ninth in faceoff percentage (.530).
Redshirt junior
Brittany Howard ranks tied for third in the nation in assists per game (1.00), tied for fourth in points per game (1.62), and tied for fifth in power-play assists (eight). She has posted a point in all but three games this season. Freshman forward
Jaycee Gebhard leads all rookies in points per game (1.38) and tops the nation in power-play goals (seven). Gebhard and Howard are tied for second and fourth in the nation respectively in power-play points (14; 13).
Sophomore defenseman
Kirsten Welsh paces all defensemen in goals (nine), and is tied for ninth with fellow sophomore defenseman
Maggie LaGue in points per game among defensemen (0.71). LaGue is tied for third in the nation in power-play assists (nine).
Robert Morris remains on the road this week for another CHA series at Syracuse on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m.
