Selected as the Giant Eagle RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 7, 2018, is junior defenseman Eric Israel of the hockey team. In a road sweep of Sacred Heart last weekend, Israel scored a pair of goals on five shots. In a 4-1 victory over the Pioneers to open the series Feb. 2, 2018, Israel scored at 4:13 mark of the second period to give the Colonials a 2-0 lead. The goal ended up as the game winner for RMU. Israel, a native of Huntington Woods, Mich., also scored at 5:47 mark of the third period in an eventual 3-1 win to complete the sweep. For his efforts, Israel was selected as the Atlantic Hockey Travel Team USA Defensive Player of the Week (2/5/18). He ranks 11th in the NCAA in 2017-18 in blocks with 58 and also owns four goals and 11 assists for 15 points.
