Selected as the Peoples Natural Gas RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for May 8, 2019, is senior Sam Buck of the track & field team. At the 2019 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in New Britain, Conn., this past weekend, Buck claimed the individual championship in the hammer throw. She recorded a toss of 50.66 meters (166’2”) to win the event and earn All-NEC First Team honors. Buck, a native of Orillia, Ontario, waited until sixth and final throw of the day to unleash the winning distance. In addition to being a personal record, the individual championship helped Buck earn All-NEC status in three of her four years competing in the event at the NEC outdoor championships. In 2016 she was named to the All-NEC Rookie Team and claimed silver at the 2018 NEC outdoor championships.
