One of two student-athletes from the women’s hockey team to earn the Giant Eagle RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week for March 8, 2017, is junior forward Jessica Gazzola of the hockey team. In the 2017 College Hockey America (CHA) Tournament, Gazzola notched a goal in both the semifinals and the championship to help the Colonials earn their second tourney title and inaugural berth in the NCAA Tournament. In a 2-1 win against Lindenwood (3/3/17) in the semifinals, Gazzola’s goal at the 12:54 mark of the third period proved to be the game winner. The next day, she opened the scoring in a 2-0 victory over Syracuse (3/4/17) at the 16:50 mark of the first period by finding the back of the net. It also proved to be the game-winning goal. For her efforts, Gazzola, a native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, was named to the 2017 CHA All-Tournament Team. In 34 games this season, Gazzola has compiled seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points for Robert Morris.
