The father of Robert Morris basketball, Krop spent 13 seasons as the program's head coach during its junior college era. Under Krops guidance, the Colonials posted a record of 287-58 (.832). The 1968-69 squad led by Krop won 30 games before losing the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championship game to Paducah (Ky.), 79-76, for its only setback of the year. He coached nine All-Americans at Robert Morris, including Don Mackey, Perry Johnson, Cleveland Edwards and Ron Hightower, all members of the RMU Athletic Hall of Fame. Krop is also a member of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the gym located in the John Jay Center is named in his honor. At the age of 88, Krop passed away in July of 2005.
