During four seasons with the RMU men's indoor and outdoor track & field squads, Witmyer claimed four Northeast Conference individual championships in the high jump, including indoor crowns in 2005, 2007 and 2008 as well as an outdoor championship in 2008. He is also one of two male student-athletes at Robert Morris to claim an IC4A Championship, as he won the high jump in 2008. At the 2008 NCAA East Regional, Witmyer claimed 10th in the high jump. In the RMU outdoor track & field record book, Witmyer owns seven of the top 10 distances in school history, including the school record of 7'0.50" he established as a sophomore in 2006. He also owns four of the top six marks in the event for indoor track & field, with his best mark of 6'11.50" coming on two occasions. That leap is tied for second all time. Away from competition, Witmyer was a two-time District II Academic All-American according to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), earning the honor in both 2007 and 2008. In addition, Witmyer was selected as the NEC Scholar-Athlete of Year for indoor track & field in both 2007 and 2008 and was tabbed the 2008 NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for outdoor track & field.
